How To Make Mint Tea

Nov 11, 2022

Peppermint, originally from the Middle East and Europe, is now grown worldwide. Peppermint was utilized as medicine by ancient civilizations like the Greeks and Egyptians. Traditional Persian treatment for toothaches involves chewing peppermint leaves. In India, peppermint is a common ingredient in herbal remedies for indigestion, colds, coughs, and other conditions.

Mint tea does not have caffeine, although certain mixed mint teas may include caffeine from other components.

Spearmint, peppermint, or orange mint leaves can make mint tea. Overstepping could cause the tea to become bitter. Therefore at most 10 minutes is recommended.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 15 fresh mint leaves (peppermint or spearmint)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar (or honey), optional
  • 1 cup ice, optional
  • 2 lemon slices, optional
  • Fresh lemon juice, optional

Recipe: Step-By-Step Process

  1. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Take the pan off the heat and stir in the fresh mint leaves. Depending on the strength you want, steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add your preferred sweetener. For each cup, start with one teaspoon and add more as needed.
  4. Squeeze in lemon juice or garnish with lemon slices to taste. Enjoy the beverage hot or iced.
